You miss the point. A statement from a Monsanto representative that is then changed to suggest they said something they didn't is no longer a statement from that representative, it is a lie. The government reacts to news media, and the people make their choices about who to vote for based on the news they read. If the news is false, then democracy can't work - they aren't making choices based on facts, but on spurious lies and falsehoods.
